During this workshop we are going to investigate the ever evolving domestic landscape, we will look at the role of urban objects used in and around the home. A house can be a shelter, a haven or a sanctuary. We will explore how the people will live and how they utilize the spaces they inhabit. We will look at the idea of generation. The needs, expectations and issues of place and purpose change. We will be looking at what issues in the market. Culture and society are driving design, as well as how we can design with more responsible materials, while creating objects that can be easily produced at an appropriate price point. We will look at how innovative materials and new technology are creating new alternatives to traditional solutions. Concepts of flexible use, multi-function, mobility and re-definition of categories are the basis of evolution in design. Hybrid creations which investigate the limits and limitations of urban objects tend to extend and reinvent the boundaries. These new hierarchies expand our idea of function, need and use. They produce items which re-investigate the very way in which we live and the spaces we inhabit. They reinvent the possibilities of how space, furniture and activity interact and create place. They reinvestigate how and where we live and work. They can also provide us with a greater flexibility and improve who we go about the tasks for our day.
