Fire - Water - Earth - Air

05.08. - 11.08.2007

The brothers Brückner, renowned architects from Germany, arrived in Boisbuchet with a very precise idea for a new architectural: a pyramid which would be based on the concept of the four elements fire, water, air and earth.

The first step was to decide in which directions were the elements going to be represented, how they would be translated and mainly where the building was going to be built to gather all the required conditions matching the theme.

After a lot of theoretical discussion, the building process started. The perfect location was found on a small hill overlooking the lake. The materials used were limited to pine wood and basic screws. The group worked quickly and efficiently, helped by all members of staff so the building was completed by Friday. The final construction has four doors giving on each element. The water is represented by the lake, the fire element is a campfire surrounded by a circle of stones, a path to the forest stands for the earth and the air is symbolized by rosemary plants perfuming the wind.

The pyramid´s dimensions, 36 square meters and 4 meters high, are large enough to allow someone to stand and lie down in it, which makes it a comfortable place to enjoy late night discussions by candlelight. The construction will remain, changing slowly under the effects of time and weather, its wood becoming greyer to finally become part of nature.
