Design for outside

Starting with a briefing, Sigga Heimis explained how the coming week was going to be about creating objects for the inside and the outside, transportable pieces to recall nature indoors and to commune with it outdoors. Simplicity and originality had to be the goals of these objects matching the aesthetic and philosophy of IKEA. Though the weather did not allow much outdoor work, the spirits were kept high by the everlasting enthusiasm of Sigga.

A lot of different natural materials were available such as green bamboo, dried banana leaves or straw. Participants started weaving, cutting, sticking, creating lamps of all shapes, stools and portable items. On the last day presentations were set up outside. A large flower, offering its petals to people who wanted to lie down, was resting next to a stool, which could be turned into a mattress, and a wrought iron table composed of silk ribbons. A lot of bright coloured objects were there, echoing the bright green of the grass enlightened by the sun. While the lamps were lit up in the ancient porchery, people tried the stools and rested on the mats appreciating the feeling of nature.
