| This workshop was a collaboration between Gala Fernandez and Sigga Heimis and it revolved around objects that students regard as iconic and fundamental to their lives. The first task given was to create a list of necessary items in their daily life. This list was later illustrated with drawings. For the next step all gratuitous items were eliminated to get back to a personal relationship with the object, to find an object that has truly an iconic character for them. From these remaining objects one or more were selected and were redesigned from scratch. During this process importance was placed that the object they were working with has a personal meaning for them and is woven to their life and background. The approach was to present the arguments that influenced our decision, producing a “manifesto” of the ethical basis that guides each designer.
