Light touches and creates emotions, therefore natural and artificial light are influencing our daily life. Ulrike Brandi, a light designer from Germany, set as the goal of her workshop “Light for Boisbuchet” to comprehend and create different light phenomena and scenarios.
The task of the 5 day workshop was to create a light installation in the old water mill of Boisbuchet. During the first three days the participants were asked to observe different daylight phenomena in the building and change the atmosphere by covering selected parts of the building. They then developed a light concept.
To provide more background information, every morning Ulrike Brandi and her assistant Julia Erlhöfer delivered short lectures about light architecture, moods, and techniques.
During the week, the participants documented the evolution of their group projects in a diary .
At the end of the workshop artificial and natural light were combined with spots covered with foil, reflecting surfaces and a photo slide show to create several light installations in the mill.
