Manufactured Nature

10.08. - 16.08. 2008

Peeling 40 pounds of potatoes.

A starting point was set for a week full of experimenting and exploration. Briefed to discover and create biopolymers (a group of composable plastics made from renewable raw materials such as potatoes, sugar, corn, eggs, rice, flower, grain) everyone started to experiment with self-created recipes. Colorants were supplied by nature and reached from blackberries to charcoal and structural integrity was achieved through newspaper, leaves, bamboo, and wood to name a few. The barn was remodeled to hold a kitchen stove on which ingredients were cooked, baked, fried or micro waved to achieve the consistence needed for the individual project.

After the material to work with was explored, groups created objects for Boisbuchet. These were due to their ingredients biodegradable and at the end of the week put into the landscape, and the scenario they were created for, and left there for decomposition.
