Contemporary art book – editorial programme

01.08. - 07.08. 2010

Over the course of the workshop, we want to explore the diverse possibilities of expression for editorial design products, employing nothing more than paper and a grid.

Participants will work on their own project independently while comparing their work with that of others. Students will learn to trace the margins and structure of a typographical frame through the tracing of the golden section. They will also be taught the structure of a publication and how it allows for the proper placement of content.

The main objective of this editorial program in contemporary frameworks is to combine all of the features of classic edition with a new contemporary vision in edition. In this exercise, we will be able to immediately feel the visual tension that will characterize the new editorial page composition. The students will gain insight into this new editorial design program, which can be applied to all printed material.

The editorial design program for integral publications will be divided into two clearly defined parts. During the first half, we will develop various quadrants within a predefined space that will assist students in the experimentation with the relationship between the golden mean and the double page publication. The second part of the program will involve the design of editorial structure.

During this section, the students will create their own publication based on a classic, predefined diagram. Such a process of creation will allow each student to rapidly assess and discern content and its intimate relation to the editorial framework that he/she has previously established.

** PLEASE NOTE **
