Design is play

24.08. - 30.08. 2008
Participation fee: € 885,- / € 685,-

Think of a Hoola Hoop... a YoYo... a Frisbee. Think of how utterly simple and beautiful they all are. Not only are these objects beautiful, they are fun to play with. To have arrived at such design solutions I'm sure it required play time. It's important when designing anything to keep the sense of play. To feel free to take risks and to have fun with what you are doing while exploring the possibilities.

After an introduction to the work by many artists and designers I admire, who with the simplest of means have created the most elegant solutions, we will play and invent our own toys. While using recycled materials as much as possible to impose limitations, we will create toys to be played with alone and in groups.

The most important ingredients are ingenuity, sculptural beauty, play value, and simplicity.
