Made by Human Body

03.08. - 09.08. 2008
Participation fee: € 885,-/ € 685,-

This workshop’s goal will be to return to craftwork’s most pure and literal sense in order to develop objects made by human hand. Nowadays, many objects are crafted with the help of machines; there is no direct contact between the human body and objects anymore. This workshop wants to breech this distance by declaring the whole human body as the principal tool with which thousand and one individual objects can be developed.

We will mould, model, stretch and create volumes with the help of textures, plasters, latex, alginate, clays, mud and water.

Each body transfers its emotions and expressions onto the newly created object, thus establishing new bonds between the self and the physical piece.

Cul de Sac (ES)

When CuldeSac was founded in August 2002, the aim was to get away from the conventional design studio and form a “creative space”. Hence most of the projects by CuldeSac are multidisciplinary, with specialists being called in from the various disciplines as needed. The core team consists of Pilar Roger (Industrial Design and Graphics, Universidad Cardenal Herrera del CEU San Pablo, Valencia), Alberto Martínez (Master Royal College of Art, London), Pepe García (Master Royal College of Art, London) and Francisco Pons (Escuela de artes y oficios, Valencia). The name of the Spanish design group can mean “dead end” but can also be translated as “bottom of the bag”. The bottom of the bag that is CuldeSac covers it all: web design, lighting, furniture, workshops, multimedia, interior design as well as small ingenious objects. CuldeSac have won numerous prizes. Their work has been featured in such publications as Wallpaper and in Dieseño Interior.
