We will analyze principles of transparency in natural structures and develop our own structures reflecting furniture and tableware functionality.
The basic materials will be metal and components from nature. Jiri Pelcl (CZ)Jiri Pelcl is a highly distinguished designer with international reputation working across a number of media and materials. Professor and former Rector of the Prague Academy of Art, Architecture and Design (AAAD), the premier institution of its kind in the Czech Republic, established in 1885. He studied at the Academy of Applied Art in Prague before studying furniture design at the Royal College of Art in London in the early 1980s. In 1987 he was a founder member of the postmodernist design group Atika. Three years later he established his own architecture and design studio, Atelier Pelcl. In 1997 he was appointed Head of the Department of Architecture and Design at AAAD, becoming Rector there in 2002. Jiri Pelcl was awarded the Honorary Doctorate of the University of Brighton in 2006, and gained the same year the National Design Prize of the Czech Republic. Among his better known commissions have been Vaclav Havel´s study in Prague Castle, the interiors of the St Laurence Church in Prague and the Czech Embassies in Rome and Pretoria, Gustav Mahler´s house in Kaliste. His work is widely known internationally and has been included into permanent design collections in many museums in the Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland and Sweden. |
