1001 metres

24.08. - 30.08. 2008
Participation fee: € 885,- / € 685,-

For this week’s workshop, Kvadrat - the Danish textile Manufacturer - have generously sponsored us with 1001 metres! of fabric. The aim is to use this fabric as the design tool/modifier for various mini projects and events to investigate the wide-ranging characteristics and endless possibilities of this ‘tool’ to change the nature, and our experience of: spaces, places and people within Boisbuchet – the woods, the chateaux, the mill, the meadow, the lake, the individual and the group.

The workshop will be a dynamic and evolving experience where we can quickly experiment and test ideas, beginning with our individual response to texture and colour by creating our Boisbuchet Nights Kit – personalising and expressing ourselves within the context of Boisbuchet and the group.

We will then go on to use the fabric…

… as an architectural tool - manipulating and influencing our perception of space.

…. as a technical intervention, influencing light and acoustics - letting the design tool test your senses.

… as a signifier, using colour as a beacon – guiding you and locating you within the landscape.

… as a mask, altering the appearance of somewhere or something – using colour and texture to change the nature of things.

We aim to end the week by using fabric to create atmosphere - a visual spectacle, a WOW!

Sevil Peach

Sevil Peach was born in Istanbul, Turkey and came to England to study Interior Architecture at Brighton University. In 1994, Sevil formed her own design and architectural studio Sevil Peach Gence Associates (SPGA).

SPGA’s approach to design is strategic, rational and intuitive - recognising that the right balance of rational (it makes sense) and emotional (it feels right) has to be achieved to arrive at the solution. Their aim is to create holistic environments that are inviting, that inspire and motivate their inhabitants and create feelings of comfort and confidence.

As a team, SPGA take a multidisciplinary approach to their wide-ranging projects - from creating private homes and studios for individual clients, to developing a 10 storey fashion design centre for Mexx in Amsterdam. SPGA have a longstanding and ongoing relationship with Vitra having designed their showrooms, exhibitions and offices throughout Europe + USA. SPGA are currently completing Microsoft’s Headquarters in Amsterdam.

Sevil has participated in a number of international workshops and conferences for, amongst others, the Dessau Bauhaus and Roskilde University, Denmark; Oslo City Conference; Designmai, Berlin; Mind the Map Conference, Istanbul and the SIA Symposium, Basel.

Sevil’s previous summer workshop at Boisbuchet concentrated of the theme of "The Bed", taking an everyday object and testing its potential as an individual, communal, multifunctional and nomadic platform… the results were a surprise to us all!
