Cardboard can be employed in several ways; it is a natural, ecological, completely recyclable material. It is resistant, cheap, light and it can be customized and used for modular furniture. These features and, first of all, its inner strength, if properly used, suggest the possibility of turning a bidimensional cardboard sheet into product. Cardboard goes along different aspects of our contemporary way of life: changing home, transforming our furniture, having temporary offices, shops, place to work and live in. We often move and travel for different reasons: study, work, life changes. This is why we need light, portable, changing, objects that suite to different life contests. These objects are not supposed to be everlasting and luxurious but resistant, easy to use, and beautiful, of course!
This workshop wishes to explore the potential of paper-based materials to create furniture. All the characteristics of cardboard boxes, cases, or cartons will be investigated in order to learn about the strengths of these materials for providing comfortable functions and solutions, as well as new innovative designs. Throughout the week, every step of the design process will be thoroughly documented for each participant to keep. The final results will be exhibited at the Museum of Paper in Angoulême later in the year.
This workshop is supported by the Conseil Général de la Charente.
