Structures for Survival

And a feast they made! - all out of nature. David had chosen the same subject as last year : Structures for Survival, making us look for sustainability in design and for responsibility of design towards the society we are living in. He made us examine the context of objects' use and their effect on the environment.

The group split into 6 groups and each group had to write a script about what they want people to experience while having taking a coffee and eating a cake; then they had to create an experience of eating which they never had before. Later, in groups of two and two, the participants had to exchange the rituals of their "every day" morning : waking up, preparing for breakfast etc., all while describing their emotional state, so the partner could try and experience the other part's habits.

After a day of playing with our senses, we met all to discuss the "creation of a meal". Asking questions like: what are you trying to achieve in this meal, how can design help you. We split into several groups, each one in charge of a different part of the event. By Friday night all the small bites got together to a big event that started with a walk in the moonlight towards the gathering tent made of trees, where the great event of food, cultural exchange took place under sky full of stars. The results were: a new type of chopsticks, a ceremony necklace, beautiful flower decorations and an interesting central table for the food.
