Makkink & Bey
"My Object Story "
August 5th – 11th 2018
Makkink & Bey
The Dutch design collaborative Studio Makkink & Bey is led by designer-architect Rianne Makkink (b. 1964) and designer Jurgen Bey (b. 1965). Supported by a multi-disciplinary design team, they have been operating their design practice since 2002. The studio's various projects include interior design, product design, public space projects, architecture, exhibition & shop-window design, research projects and applied arts.
Their products, furniture, interiors and public spaces are often produced in collaboration with companies such as Prooff, Droog Design, and Moooi and other professionals from their local and international network.
In more than 400 projects, commissioned by museums, galleries, art or government organizations, companies and private commissioners, as well as in many lectures they believe in a design vision in which the form of a design follows from its context.
Rianne Makkink has been teaching, amongst others, at the Design Academy Eindhoven, University of Ghent, Belgium, University of Applied Arts in Linz, Austria, etc. She is heavily involved in education to pass on Makkink & Bey's design strategy of expanding the role of the designer to the most strategic function possible. In their opinion, connecting existing elements inside the context of a project, is like stringing beads.
"My Object Story"
August 5th – 11th
Harvesting our social and material environment at Boisbuchet will be the first step towards a personal curiosity cabinet at the end.
It’ll be your challenge to deal with an object made by Makking & Bey as a point of reference.
Parts of that game will be the material around you and other parts include photography, drawings and more. The workshop is all about your expression of a narrative that you’ll give to that one object.
