August 20th – 26th 2017
Designer and artist Bertjan Pot runs a studio in Rotterdam, in a huge space with his small team. He is probably best known for his ‘’Random Light’’, which started as a material research and is basically the starting point of each product created by Studio Bertjan Pot.
Bertjan likes to play with materials and colours.
‘’I'm always looking for smart constructions and pleasing aesthetics with a twist. I like exploring materials until I find their ultimate quality, hoping for pleasant surprises that will inspire me to continue the process. The discoveries are mostly something small that I will repeat until it becomes something bigger. I let small logic steps dictate the process and in the end the shape.’’
The outcome can be anything from a functional interior product to an object that might be found in a museum or on a private wall, standing, sitting or hanging there to inspire.
August 20th – 26th
We all know "Less is More”, though Bertjan doesn’t always agree with this cliche.
In his workshop we will concentrate on 'weight', this will mean less material, less energy to produce, ship and use, but also more freedom. Through a few simple challenges, you will explore the engineering side of design, playing with structures defying gravity, still definitely not leaving aside your intuition and sense of aesthetics. There will be very little sketching and a lot of trial and error.
