WORKSHOP “A DESIGN IN THE RIGHT PLACE”

“A Design in the Right Place” was a workshop held at Domaine de Boisbuchet from June 19 to 22, 2025, organised with EASD Valencia

“A Design in the Right Place” is a workshop led by Mut Design, Juan José Tormo Vidal, and Nacho Lavernia, organised in collaboration with EASD Valencia (Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño de Valencia), an institution recognised for its teaching in design, applied arts, and creative disciplines, with a strong emphasis on practice and close ties to industry.

Upon their arrival at Domaine de Boisbuchet, the students were invited to immerse themselves in the site and observe its specific characteristics, with the aim of designing objects in direct dialogue with their environment.

Using rattan and other natural fibres, they went on to envision and create custom backrests designed to enhance comfort during the estate’s outdoor cinema sessions. The project placed ergonomics at the centre of the design process, encouraging creations that engage with the natural setting rather than imposing themselves upon it.

Materials were provided by Expormim, a Spanish company specialising in rattan and natural fibres. More than a formal exercise, the workshop offered students a space for exploration in which design, making, and use came together within an environment conducive to exchange and experimentation.
