BOISBUCHET RESIDENCY PROGRAMME

VERINA GFADER

SEASON 2025

Verina Gfader is an artist and researcher who works at the intersection of performance, art direction, and publishing.

During her residency at Domaine de Boisbuchet, she developed a multi-faceted project combining performance, drawing, and object-making. She presented a display of furniture, including an elliptic MDF plate with painted details placed on a square table, alongside two bamboo kites decorated with cosmogram drawings, prototypes for potential flying objects.

A central element of her work was a series of six durational architectural rubbings executed over six daily drawing performances. Using yellow pencil on large sheets of paper, she traced the circles of the Paper Pavilion, designed by Shigeru Ban, engaging physically with its uneven, sun-heated surfaces. The rubbings evoke a combination of electrocardiogram patterns, heliocentric measures, and disaster-relief expressions, exploring the interaction between human body, architecture, and material.

Additional prototypes and works included 3D scans and prints of historical meteorites, hand-painted 6×6 slides, and unprocessed color roll film, all presented on colored A4 backgrounds to create a cohesive visual environment. One large-format photograph taken in the Boisbuchet library also forms part of her ongoing work.

“In conclusion, after many years of high-profile academic engagements, the time on Domaine de Boisbuchet felt crucial for re-turning toward my actual art practice.”
