BOISBUCHET RESIDENCY PROGRAMME

LISA HONG JUNGHWA

SEASON 2025

This project by Lisa Hong JungHwa, architect and designer, is inspired by the poetic Korean word 흔적, meaning “the trace of memory.” People often keep objects at home that are connected to their memories, and she believes they deserve to be stored in a meaningful place. This led her to create two dedicated spaces for memory.

The first piece was born from beautiful leather offcuts she discovered in the workshop of Boisbuchet. The leather has a soft, warm touch—both flexible and strong. A simple rectangular box was transformed into a singular object through the crafted leather details: hinge, handle, and corners.

The second piece uses fallen bamboo skin collected from a bamboo forest. The material is lightweight and fragile, yet it still has a vibrant, shiny quality. She built a dome-like structure from thick rattan pieces, carefully covering it with the bamboo skin. Together, these works explore how memory can be stored and experienced, transforming everyday materials into objects of reflection.
