BOISBUCHET RESIDENCY PROGRAMME

HENRIK ÅGREN

SEASON 2025

After 18 years in Barcelona, Henrik Ågren is an industrial arts designer working across furniture and product design now based in Malmö.

This is the first object he has made without a defined function. Developed during a residency at Boisbuchet, the piece explores the natural movement of wood over time.

A freshly cut red oak plate acts as an actuator, as it dries, it begins to cup, subtly shifting the geometry. This movement is amplified by the long, dry paulownia slats above, creating a fan-like expression of internal tension. The base is made of birch wood.

The object was made almost entirely with hand tools. It is a structural study and a quiet hypothesis that the motion will continue, season after season, as a living reminder of the material’s rhythm and memory.
