BOISBUCHET RESIDENCY PROGRAMME
GABRIELLE VENGUER
SEASON 2025

Gabrielle Venguer is a Mexican fashion designer who developed a site-specific textile project during her residency at Boisbuchet. Before beginning any fabrication, she observed the landscape, producing a series of drawings that later became the visual foundation for her work, including details such as the sequoia beside the castle or the flower vases arranged on the dining tables.
These sketches were translated into a large-scale felted piece through a slow, hands-on and collective process. Working with the technique of wet felting, she layered wool fibers and activated them using water, soap, and repeated pressure, allowing the material to gradually bind and transform into a dense textile surface. This time-based method emphasized gesture, patience, and physical engagement with the material. Over several afternoons, residents and volunteers were invited to take part to the repetitive actions of layering, wetting, and rubbing that shaped the final piece.
For the final presentation, she exhibited the piece in the Chinese Pavilion, transforming the space by bringing the river and the surrounding landscape indoors in an immersive and poetic gesture.
