SANDBERG INSTITUUT AT DOMAINE DE BOISBUCHET
WORKSHOP “HIBERNATION MANIFESTO”
FEBRUARY 14TH – FEBRUARY 22ND 2026

In March 2026, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from the Master’s programme The Studio for Immediate Spaces at the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam.
During their residency workshop at Boisbuchet, they worked on the construction and ritual activation of a temporary sauna, which was meant to be used during winter. The project proposed hibernation as an active state — a way of adapting to the surroundings and embracing temporality.
Through individual contributions and one collective project, participants engaged in building, cooking, and gathering as shared practices. Rather than producing the grand and the new, the residency embraced warmth, rhythm, and adapting to the surroundings as forms of resistance and collective survival.
“The time spent at Boisbuchet made this project be realised smoother than we could have imagined. All materials used were found in situ and were disassembled at the end of the residency, with the possibility to be used by others in the near future.”
