BOISBUCHET RESIDENCY PROGRAMME

LESLIE HAMILTON

SEASON 2021

Leslie Hamilton is an artist and designer currently based in New York City. For the last eight years she has been working in New York as a fashion designer, creating seamless repeat prints that are used on fabrics for the collections of fashion brands. She is inspired by the way prints can bring life and vibrance to a space or an object and create a new feeling. By researching old printing techniques and thinking about the ways in which she can apply her painting and print design skills to textiles, fabrics, and wall hangings, Leslie creates works which fuse handcrafted practices with design.

“By researching old printing techniques and thinking about the ways in which she can apply her painting and print design skills to textiles, fabrics, and wall hangings, Leslie creates works which fuse handcrafted practices with design.”

At Boisbuchet, Leslie hoped to forge a deeper connection to her own creative process, to develop her own unique visual identity, and to fully commit time to her own self-discovery, learning and creative exploration.

Leslie was inspired by the local flora and fauna of the French landscape – the country that historically has had such a profound impact on wallpapers and printmaking. She created an archway which was installed next to the lake, decorated with floral designs motifs, printed on fabric made with wooden stencils that Leslie herself made by carving into the wood.
