The Workshop

Paper Play is an exploration of cutting, curving and folding from 2D to 3D. We will focus on mask making, product design, and building all kinds of prototypes in paper.  This interactive workshop is designed to unleash creativity through the astonishingly versatile medium of paper. Participants engage in a series of hands-on activities, starting with the basics of folding techniques and progressing to more intricate designs inspired by traditional and contemporary forms.

Following a brief introduction to the history and cultural significance of paper crafting, highlighting its evolution from ancient traditions to modern artistic expressions, the workshop allows participants to dive into some deep experiential learning processes.

They experiment with various techniques and types of paper, from colourful sheets to textured craft paper, exploring how different materials influence the process and final outcome of their creations. They learn how to manipulate paper into dynamic shapes and expressive forms, culminating in the creation of unique masks, toys, receptacles and many other designs.

Throughout the workshop, emphasis is placed on experimentation, improvisation, and self-expression, empowering participants to push the boundaries of their creativity and discover new possibilities within the realm of paper. At the end of the workshop, participants not only leave with their own handmade products but also with a newfound appreciation for the versatility and beauty of paper as a creative medium.
