The Oak

July 16th – July 22nd 2023

The Workshop

Last winter, an unstable oak tree had to be felled in Boisbuchet's park. Instead of using it for fire, our workshop will try to make more sense of it, from the trunk to the branches, the bark and the smallest twigs – except for the roots. First we will study the qualities of this organism and then, individually or in teams, intuitively and directly respond to the sometimes strong sometimes delicate wood, its organic forms, annual rings and other features such as color and grain, using carving, sawing, splitting, bending (under steam) and other techniques to make furniture, accessories, material samples and other utilitarian objects.

Lex Pott Netherlands

Lex Pott (born 1985) employs a raw and intuitive working method. He always returns to the origins of the materials he uses – mostly wood, stone and metal. He does not hide his designs under indirect layers but reduces them to their very essence. Pott graduated cum laude in 2009 at the Design Academy Eindhoven and today works from his own design studio based in Rotterdam.

Chris Kabel Netherlands

Chris Kabel (Haarlem, 1975) combines a sensitive and analytical approach with a fascination for material and natural phenomena to design objects, furniture and architectural elements. Sensitivity to context and finding relevant design answers prevails trends: “I like to be smart more than stylish”. One way or another, aesthetics always follow suit in an intuitive and poetic way. Chris Kabel graduated in 2001 from the Design Academy Eindhoven. He lives and works in Rotterdam and Brussels.
