SUMMER EXHIBITION 2022

INDIAN AMBASSADOR TO FRANCE VISITS BOISBUCHET

AUGUST 5 2022

His Excellency, Mr Jawed Ashraf, Ambassador of India to France and Monaco, was a patron of one of our previous exhibitions on “The Sacred Trees of India”.

On August 5th he came to see the exhibition, meet its artist, the photographer Deidi von Schaewen, and visit the Domaine. A festive dinner in Boisbuchet’s forest with the ambassador’s inspiring speech added special glamour to this day!

India’s sacred trees are widespread in the subcontinent and belong to different cultures and religions, especially Hinduism, Buddhism and the animistic views of indigenous peoples, each of which attributes its own significance to them. each with its own significance. The sites are found in the most diverse locations but are hardly explored.

The thirty-five photographs, most of them large format, presented in this exhibition at the Château de Boisbuchet, were accompanied by for the occasion by students from the Design Village in New Delhi: objects from everyday Indian life under the trees. Finally, a screening of two films by Deidi von Schaewen on the ritual ceremony celebrated every twelve years in honour of the forest hermit Bahubali in Shranavabelgola, in the state of Karnataka, closed the exhibition.

The ‘Sacred Trees of India’ were the focus of a series of events in 2022, in honour of trees and forests. The name ‘Boisbuchet’, which some interpreted by as a pyre for burning witches, but others simply translate it as ‘scrub forest others simply translate it as “forest of brushwood”, justifies the theme in itself. But the reason is the forest as such, omnipresent in Boisbuchet as a source of energy and materials for work, as a source of inspiration for creative experiments and as as a place of rest, and even in a hidden forest cemetery.

The exhibition, which covered 150 m² in the castle of the Domaine de Boisbuchet, was inaugurated on 18 June (RSVP) on the occasion of the “Nuits des forêts” (17-26 June), and was closed on 18 September, the last day of the 2022 Heritage Days, entitled “Patrimoine Heritage”.
