THE ORIGINS

“The World of Forests” trail has been carefully designed as part of the ‘Cultures Connectées 2021’ initiative, a programme to foster the integration of digital technology into cultural experiences. We are honoured that the project has been selected for this programme, made possible through a collaboration between the Direction régionale des affaires culturelles de Nouvelle-Aquitaine (DRAC) and the Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

As Boisbuchet’s name suggests, the forest stood at its historic starting point, and today it is still of vital importance to the estate – for its microclimate, biodiversity and energy supply. The 60-hectare forest provides wood for Boisbuchet’s architecture and design projects and fruit for the estate’s kitchen. But it is also a place where people and nature can relax and an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the creativity to which this institution is dedicated.

“The World of Forests” is open from 4 November 2023 to 5 May 2024, workdays from 9h30 – 18h30.

HOW DOES IT WORKS?

It took two years of work to create an educational trail that guides visitors over an initial 2 km through the estate, past varied topography and flora, and lined with buildings and installations created in Boisbuchet’s renowned design workshops. A website, accessible via smartphone at the start of the walk, explains the scientific, cultural, historical, economic, and ecological aspects of the forest in general, and its local and regional significance in particular.

The trail, which comprises 12 stations, invites visitors to explore trees, forests and nature with all their senses, and to discover the complexity of the forest world, which occupies a central place in the history of mankind. Depending on your level of interest, each station allows you to go further or less deeply into the themes covered and to consult detailed information, written in an understandable way and richly illustrated.

THE EVOLVING TRAIL

Over the coming year, 12 more stations will be added, offering itineraries tailored to the interests and abilities of visitors young and old. The trail is an outdoor experience for anyone who wants to discover the forest in a new light: its vital fungi or photosynthesis, the economic importance of the forest for architecture and furniture-making, its role in art, culture and religion and, why not, the forest as a place for “tree hugging” and “forest bathing”.
