This One is about You

July 11th – July 17th 2021

The Workshop

Design is about making a better world around us. More comfortable, more sustainable, more fair etc. But I still think that the biggest gift of you as a designer to the world, is giving the thing you are good at. So ask not what the world wants from you, but ask what is it, that you can give. In this workshop we’ll make it personal and we’ll try to find out what you are good at.

Looking back on 3 workshops at Boisbuchet, my favorite moments have always been the ones where things got personal, where things in the workshop started connecting with ones personal design practice.

Through simple daily tasks, some generic and some maybe very personal and even personalized we’ll try to find out what you are about.
Don’t think the workshop will be about having day-long endless conversations. I myself am also a maker and love helping people to make things. I strongly believe that words themselves are not always the best way to communicate or to find out things about you. As a designer I find our primal language within the making and doing. I like it when things coming out of your hands are surprising the mind.

To make it extra personal: I would like to know in advance what your practice is about. So please share a portfolio by PDF (workshops@boisbuchet.org) or a link to your website when inscribing so we have a head start (a week is very short).

To make the workshop work, we can have a maximum of 12 people. First come first served.

Bertjan Pot Netherlands

Bertjan Pot is a designer, probably best known for his Random Light (1999) and his ongoing collection of masks. Both projects started as material research, which is basically the starting point of each product created by Bertjan Pot. The outcome is usually a product showing a fascination for techniques, structures, patterns and colors.

Most experiments start quite impulsively by a certain curiosity for how things would function or how something would look. From there Pot takes on challenges with manufacturers to explore possibilities and push the boundaries a bit. The reward for each challenge is a new one.
