The Workshop

When Boisbuchet's workshops started 30 years ago, the Domaine's chateau has been a dormant beauty for many years. Its countless beautiful interior objects had disappeared and the building was left naked as a backdrop for our fantasy.

In our workshop the participants together with Anton Alvarez are going to realize an amazing chandelier which formerly could have illuminated the ball room. In a collaborative effort engaging the technicians of the Corning Museum of Glass we'll work on this piece in order to recreate the lost chandelier - the most grandiose, expressive, colourful, and richly textured object ever created in Boisbuchet's wonderland.

We are going to explore our intuition and see what happens when hands make their decisions before the mind and vice versa. Using methods such as whisper games building, blind building, or speed building, we are going to generate unexpected results that let go any preconceived ideas and expectations.

The main focus of our week is glass and the magic it unfolds from the moment it melts until it gets hard again to glow in the light. However, our chandelier will also be composed of other materials such as cork, soil, textiles, thread, sticks, dust, leafs, sand, wood, metal, flour, yeast, water, tomatoes, foam… We'll explore wood, plaster, and clay moulds for glass blowing and even try how different minerals and organic materials react on hot glass.

At the end of our week we'll install the chandelier back at the chateau and, of course, celebrate it's renaissance.

The Corning Museum of Glass is home to the world’s most important collection of glass, including the finest examples of glassmaking spanning 3,500 years.

Live glassblowing demonstrations (offered at the Museum, on the road, and at sea on Celebrity Cruises) bring the material to life. Daily Make Your Own Glass experiences at the Museum enable visitors to create work in a state-of-the-art glassmaking studio. The campus in Corning, NY, includes a year-round glassmaking school, The Studio, and the Rakow Research Library, the world’s preeminent collection of materials on the art and history of glass.

In 2015, the Museum opened a 100,000-square-foot Contemporary Art + Design Wing, designed by Thomas Phifer. The new wing includes a new 26,000-square-foot contemporary art gallery building, as well as one of the world’s largest facilities for glassblowing demonstrations and live glass design sessions.
